EcoPower Suffolk’s non-statutory consultation period has now closed

News: 15 May 2025

EcoPower Suffolk’s non-statutory consultation period has now closed. The team would like to thank everyone who submitted feedback. The important process of collating and analysing the feedback is underway, and alongside our technical assessments, will shape our detailed plans.

The project is being developed by Econergy, an international independent power producer of renewable energy projects, operating across six different countries in Europe, including the UK.

EcoPower Suffolk will deliver a solar farm and BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) with an anticipated capacity of around 250 megawatts (MW). This would have the potential to supply enough clean, renewable energy to the National Grid to power around 75,000 homes a year.

In response to extensive community and stakeholder feedback, the project timeline will be extended to give EcoPower Suffolk more time to develop the most appropriately designed plans. While early proposals for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects can cause uncertainty in local communities, EcoPower Suffolk is committed to using the feedback received so far to inform the detailed plans. The project website has been updated to include responses to the most frequently asked questions from the non-statutory consultation period.

EcoPower Suffolk will continue to monitor its contact centre and respond to neighbour’s enquiries. A new liaison group with local stakeholders is being set up, including Suffolk County Council, Mid-Suffolk District Council and parish council representatives to ensure they are all kept abreast of the latest project developments. The statutory consultation is now planned to begin in spring 2026, where more detailed plans will be shared.

Econergy Head of Planning, Humphrey Jamieson, said the following:

Projects like EcoPower Suffolk are essential in the UK’s transition to net-zero.

On behalf of everyone at EcoPower Suffolk, I would like to thank you for sharing valuable project feedback with us during the non-statutory consultation period.

“To ensure we incorporate the feedback in our plans where practicable, we are lengthening the project timeline. We are now seeking to begin our statutory consultation in spring 2026.

“We look forward to continuing to engage with you in the interim period.
